PRODUCT CARE, OUR TIPS

Everything in our collection is designed choosing each material with intention and care, and that is because quality is of utmost importance when creating collections aiming to last in time. Let’s all work together more closely in order to achieve a better knowledge of what we wear and how to take care of our clothing. After all, a well-maintain wardrobe is one that is worn and loved for a lifetime. Looking after your clothes, and therefore getting the chance to buy less and wear each piece for longer, is easy and within the reach of everyone.

Raw silk

Raw silk is one of our absolute favorite fabrics. It has the thicker feel of a cotton fabric, with a slightly rough texture that is a great counterpoint to its lightness. Made out of the strongest natural fibers, its natural irregularities are part of its beauty.
That is one of the reasons why we like to consider it to be Emil’s signature fabric.

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR RAW SILK PIECE

Washing
To keep your raw silk as close as possible to its original condition, we recommend dry cleaning. However, raw silk is also the most washable silk. Washed raw silk has a beautiful, soft, lived-in texture. You can hand wash or use a gentle machine wash cycle. Be sure to use a detergent without bleach, such as Soak Wash, because bleach will break down silk fibers.

After washing
Hang dry or lay flat to dry. Please note that darker colors may bleed or fade more quickly with washing. Dark colors can also fade or streak if washed, so dry clean in order to retain richer colors. Low iron or steam if needed.

Silk

Silk is a very special natural fiber. It is in fact the only filament fiber produced by nature itself. It’s soft, lustrous, and smooth to the touch. It is considered a durable fabric, and it consists of 100% natural material. We use only 100% Italian silk from our entrusted local supplier with whom we have developed close, long-term working relationships, proudly supporting localism.

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR SILK PIECE

Washing
Opt for cold hand wash. Place your silk garment in cold water with a mild silk-friendly detergent. Leave to soak, then swish the garment slowly and gently. To rinse, use cold water – you can add a teaspoon of white vinegar, this will remove excess detergent, soften the silk and restore its luster.

After washing
Do not wring it to avoid damage. Lay it flat to dry, rolling it in a towel to absorb any lingering moisture, if needed. Hang and store your silk piece in a cool, dry place. You don’t need to wash your silk after every wear. The fabric does not absorb odors, from time to time some good air is all it takes to keep your garments fresh. Use a steamer for best results and care. If ironing, always turn delicate garments inside out and use a cool setting as heat can damage the fragile fibers.

Cotton

Cotton is the most popular natural fiber in the world. It is lightweight, breathable, and wearable all year round. Cotton gauze is mainly used as a lining in our garments, instead of the standard polyester.

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR COTTON PIECE

Washing
Cotton can be hand or machine-washed. Machine wash at 30°C is usually the best option to prevent garments from shrinking and to keep them looking their best for longer.

After washing
Hang your cotton pieces out to dry rather than tumble dry them. Tip: if ironing is needed, iron while the fabric is slightly damp.

Organic cotton

Known to be the most popular natural fiber in the world, cotton is lightweight, breathable, and wearable all year round. Its high global demand encourages large-scale intensive production and consequent pollution, and that is the reason why we choose its sustainable option, with much less synthetic agricultural chemicals and water usage.

Linen

Linen is a natural fabric, spun from the fibers of the flax plant. Quick to dry and comfortable to wear, linen transitions well from season to season.

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR LINEN PIECE

Washing
Opt for an easy and safe gentle machine wash using a neutral soap and a low spin at 30°C. Keep in mind that it’s always better to wash it with like colors. Alternatively, handwash and rinse with lukewarm water. Linen pieces can be hung to ventilate between wears, instead of being washed each time.

After washing
Try to dry your linen clothes flat, hangers or clothespins can cause marks on the fabric. When ironing your piece, flip it inside-out whilst the linen is still a little bit damp.

Wool

Wool is naturally an organic fiber and it has inherent characteristics that make it renewable and biodegradable. Wool takes care of itself best. If you aired out your clothes loosely and uncovered for at least 24 hours after wearing them, merino wool will do most of the maintenance itself. Too frequent washing wears out your garments and their colors faster.

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR WOOL PIECE

Washing
Cold hand-wash is always recommended: immerse your garment inside out in cold water using a delicate wash. Leave it for 5 minutes and then swish it gently. You can also wash your wool piece by machine using a gentle wash at 30°C.

After washing
The only thing you should remember is to always dry it flat.

Tencel

We like the fabric for its positive environmental impact, strong, soft, absorbent, and wrinkle-resistant characteristics. We also couldn’t agree more with the fact that Tencel garments are fully biodegradable and help in the effort to reduce environmental waste. Tencel is more absorbent than cotton, softer than silk, and cooler than linen.

Washing
This fabric is very low maintenance. The most important note is that it doesn’t like extreme heat, which is why both washing and drying should be kept to low temperatures.

After washing
Hang the garments dry instead of tumble drying: gravity will help take most of the creases out to reduce the need for ironing.

Cachemire

Cachemire is a sustainable material that has been used for many generations. It’s known for its incredibly soft and warm yet lightweight and breathable qualities. It is finer, stronger, lighter, and softer than any other wool, and around three times more insulating.

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR CACHEMIRE PIECE

Washing
Cachemire should be hand washed with cold water. Immerse your garment inside out in cold water using a delicate detergent. Do not machine wash and do not use softeners. Too frequent washing can easily wear out your garments, some good air is sometimes all it takes to keep your garments fresh.

After washing
Let your piece flat air dry to best preserve its fibers. You can gently press it in a towel to absorb water and speed up the drying process.
